Still not convinced? 11 more good reasons to install home sprinklers:
Money: The average Kiwi home would cost about $3,500 to be fully sprinklered. That works out at $350 per sprinkler head designed and installed. If you think about how much you would lose in one room, let alone the entire home in the case of a fire, then that's money well spent. Plus, having sprinklers installed would be a key selling point if it ever came to selling your home.
Nan: If someone in your home has mobility issues they are less likely to survive a fire because they can´t evacuate as quickly or as easily. If there are sprinklers present, that person stands a markedly better chance of making it out alive.
Pictures, heirlooms and irreplaceable items will still be there when you get back into your house after a fire if there are home sprinklers present.
Siblings: If your house suffers a major fire you could be out for months. If it has to be totally rebuilt, make that a year. That´s a lot of time to spend in your sister´s spare room. In 90 percent of fires where sprinklers are present, the fire never gets past the room of origin, meaning you´re out of the room for one or two days
Sleep: Fatal fires frequently start at night. If you´re asleep, you can´t smell smoke, and you won´t notice a fire until a smoke alarm goes off. A home sprinkler never sleeps, though. It will be on the case while the fire is manageable, possibly before you´re aware it´s started. So you can sleep easier.
Resale: With modern, attractive home sprinklers, your house is worth more, not least because it will still be there when you go to sell it.
Neighbours: A home sprinkler will stop a fire getting big enough to threaten the house across the fence, which means - having not burned their house down - your neighbours will still be happy to look after the cat when you go on holiday.
This is one of New Zealand´s 8000 firefighters. He loves being a firefighter, but the worst part of his job is turning out to a fatal fire, or one where someone has lost everything they own. Don´t ruin his day. Get a home sprinkler.
Water: Kiwis use enough of it as it is, without having to pour thousands of litres more onto a house fire. A home sprinkler system uses 60 litres per minute to put out a fire. Firefighters use tens or even hundreds of thousands of litres.
Rufus: Pets can´t read and they´re better with “sit” and “stand” than “stop, drop and roll”. Get your pet a home sprinkler and enjoy having them around much, much longer.
The good life: If you live rurally, help in the event of a fire is sometimes half an hour away. If there´s no-one home, there will be no-one to call 111, and when the Fire Service arrives there will be no water main to plug the hoses into. A home sprinkler solves all those problems, and can be run off a pump or tank supply.
